Megan Amsler, Executive Director
A native Wellfleetian, Megan Amsler grew up on an organic farm where sustainability was a way of life. Prior to her current position, Megan worked in the ecological wastewater treatment field. Megan is now the Executive Director of Self-Reliance, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote environmentally sound technologies and sustainable practices.
Megan has a wide knowledge of renewable energy technologies. She established Cape Cod as a Million Solar Roofs partnership, facilitated over 500 solar installations in the region and has been working on various wind power projects since 2001. She has been conducting educational outreach as well as feasibility work on wind, from residential scale to utility-scale projects.
Megan is co-chair of the Falmouth Energy Committee, treasurer of the Cape & Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative and the Falmouth alternate representative to the Cape Light Compact. She is a member of the board of directors for the Small Wind division of the American Solar Energy Society and the Small Wind Certification Council. Megan is also a member of Women of Wind Energy.
Lindsey Close
Lindsey Close joined the Self Reliance staff in January 2006 as Systems Administrator and Editor of the Self-Reliance Current.
Lindsey’s deep interest in renewable energy and environmental issues led her to a degree in Environmental Studies from Mount Holyoke College. But her interest goes beyond the academic: she and her husband, Bryan Jesienski, own and live in an extremely well-insulated, energy-efficient home with air-to-air heat exchanger, solar thermal system for radiant floor heat and domestic hot water, grid-tied photovoltaic system with battery back-up, composting toilets and bamboo floors. They also own a 2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI that they run using biodiesel.
In addition to editing the newsletter, Lindsey is responsible for our member services, which include the oil co-op and other membership benefits, giving her the opportunity to interact directly with our members.
Sarah Cote
Sarah Cote is our new Program Coordinator and helps with Member Services. Sarah joins us after working for three years at the Hyannis-based non-profit Clean Power Now. Her knowledge and passion for renewable energy will be put to good use in the coming months as she works on outreach and education.
Sarah graduated from Sandwich High School in 2004 and went on to study Psychology and Writing at Hawaii Pacific University on Oahu for two years. She finished up her degree at Bridgewater State College and graduated cum lade in 2008. Sarah is also a 2011 graduate of the Cape Cod Community Leadership Institute. She currently lives in Forestdale where she serves as Secretary of the Sandwich Energy Committee and enjoys growing fresh organic veggies at her local community garden.
